Margaret Copeland is crowned the first Rose Queen
The first Rose Queen, crowned in 1933, was Margaret Copeland.
The Smith County Historical Society and Tyler Today say she came from Palestine, Texas, and Tyler Today said in 2022 that she is the only queen not a Tyler native.
The Handbook of Texas calls her “Margaret Copland of Tyler.”
Note
Sources differ on her name and her town: Copeland of Palestine, or, in the Handbook of Texas, Copland of Tyler.
